St. John's Wood

pta's innovative approach was applied to this multi-storey block of flats incorporating, at the rear, low rise housing, all of which overlay a subterranean car park.

External pressures suggested the only solution be piled foundations. However, after carrying out extensive studies on the sub strata and taking into account the differing applied loading from the low rise housing and multi storey structure, pta advocated and implemented the more cost effective and buildable solution of one large raft articulated to recognise the potential differential settlements.pta's in-house expertise in flat slab philosophies was used for the transfer slabs and and superstructure slabs to the reinforced concrete framework. This enabled the contractor to use a very simple formowork on a repetitive basis. For the low-rise housing at the rear above ground level, pta's structural solution was to revert to the more traditional house building techniques, i.e. timber, brickwork, blockwork, etc.
